George Formby was sent to become an apprentice jockey at the age of seven. He rode in his first professional race at the age of ten weighing only three stones thirteen pounds. When his father died suddenly in 1921 George was encouraged to take to the stage. George went on to write and perform over 300 original songs the most well known being When Im Cleaning Windows and Little Stick of Blackpool Rock. I know Lester Piggott was 12 years of age when he became a jockey but was George Formby the youngest Jockey ever at ten. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHx6bIJFU8M

George Formby's last race was when he was 16 and his mount on that day was Old Chris.
